How to Choose the Right Size Asymmetrical Mirror for Your Space
An asymmetrical wooden mirror is more than a place to check your reflection. It's a sculptural piece that sets the mood of a room. But choosing the wrong size can make even the most beautiful mirror feel lost on a wall or overwhelm a small space. Here's a simple guide to finding the perfect fit.
Start With the Wall, Not the Mirror
Measure the width of the wall or furniture the mirror will hang above. A good rule of thumb: your mirror should be about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it, or take up roughly 60–75% of an empty wall. This leaves enough breathing room for the organic shape to stand out.
Size Guide by Room
Entryway: A medium mirror (around 75×46 cm / 30×18 in to 100×61 cm / 39×24 in) works beautifully above a console table or bench. It brightens the space and lets you check your look on the way out.
Bathroom: Match the mirror to your vanity. For a single sink, 60×37 cm (24×15 in) to 85×52 cm (33×20 in) is ideal. For a double vanity, go larger, from 120×74 cm (47×29 in) upward, or hang two mirrors side by side.
Living room: Above a sofa or fireplace, a large statement mirror (140×86 cm / 55×34 in or more) becomes a true focal point and reflects natural light across the room.
Bedroom: Use a full-length mirror leaned against the wall, or a wide mirror above a dresser.
Horizontal or Vertical?
Most of our asymmetrical mirrors can be hung either way. Horizontal placement makes a room feel wider and works well above long furniture. Vertical placement draws the eye upward, making ceilings feel taller, perfect for narrow hallways and entryways.
Hang It at the Right Height
The center of the mirror should sit around 145–155 cm (57–61 in) from the floor, roughly eye level. When hanging above furniture, leave 15–25 cm (6–10 in) between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the mirror.
Quick Tip: Test Before You Hang
Cut a piece of kraft paper or cardboard to the mirror's size and tape it to the wall. Live with it for a day. You'll know immediately whether it feels right.
